RYOKAN

Picture
Ryokan- What is it?

A Ryokan is a Japanese-style inn. Unlike any Western style hotel or backpackers, maintaining the original atmosphere and appearance of Japanese style living rather then providing all the modern conveniences. A Ryokan is for travelers who wish to experience true Japanese culture and enjoy first hand  the comforts of Japanese hospitality.

History of the Ryokan.
Ryokans, part of the Japanese society for hundreds of years. Are a basic  room for rent, Some examples of the early ryokans were located on the Tokaido Highway which connected the capital city of Edo (Tokyo) and the Imperial Palace (Kyoto). This busy highway used by samurai, traders, and others making their way between the two popular cities. Ryokans were built to welcome weary travelers who needed to rest for the night before continuing on their long journey. Some ryokans were very simple, a home offering an extra room in their homes for travelers, while other Ryokan were elaborate and served the higher ranks of the government and wealthy travelers. Ryokans, managed by the home owner who worked hard to make their guests feel welcomed and ensured a good nights rest, most still offer the same today.
